Arup supports the Brisbane Sustainability Hub

Arup is proud to have facilitated the establishment of a sustainability hub in the Brisbane CBD – bringing together five separate not-for-profit organisations working in the environment and sustainability sector. The hub’s central mission is to integrate sustainability more broadly through, major infrastructure projects, buildings and communities. The hub organisations include Brisbane City Council’s CitySmart, Green Cross, Australian Green Infrastructure Council, the Green Building Council of Australia, and Habitat for Humanity. With the support of Arup, these organisations are working together to reduce household and business carbon emissions.

The idea for the hub came about when Arup was looking at creative and meaningful ways to utilise the existing rented premises at Adelaide Street which had become surplus to needs as then. The space at 79 Adelaide Street comprises approximately 602m² floor space which includes roughly 50 workstations.

The sustainability hub is a great extension of the positive work already being delivered by council and other organisations, and it is anticipated that the initiatives that will come out of the hub will help to make an even bigger dint in Brisbane’s carbon emissions.

Arup is committed to our involvement in the Brisbane Sustainability Hub by contributing to and supporting any initiatives that come out of the hub – as well as providing the physical space (through reduced rent) and office facilities/amenities as a minimum until the end of the lease in late 2012.
