Established in 1992, Sowers Action is a non-religious, non-political and non-profit-making registered charity in Hong Kong, committed to promote education aid in rural China by providing multidimensional support measures such as student sponsorship, school construction and facilities, teacher training, children & youth welfare and special education, bringing education to underprivileged or disabled students. Emphasising “On-site Assessment, Direct Subsidy and Long Term Follow-up”, Sowers Action raise funds for education aid and operational expenditure purposes separately to ensure all generous donations are used in an effective manner.

As of June 2015, Sowers Action has funded over 1,280 school construction projects, subsidised over 295,000 primary and secondary students and 870 university students, 28,000 teachers for teacher training programs, operating one children’s home and subsidizing one orphan school, which helped raised over RMB440 million for education in Mainland China.

Mission – to provide the children in poverty with good education conditions and healthy environment to grow up by pooling social resources and mobilising volunteers’ efforts on school and children’s home projects.

Vision – No child in China should be deprived of education due to poverty.

Arup has been a supportive partner since 2009 on Sowers Action Challenging 12 Hours, Walk for Children and participated in rebuilding post-earthquake Sichuan. In 2016, Arup signed the memorandum of understanding to make it an official strategic partner. Arup has been generously donating funds to Sowers Action with the provision of our talents and expertise to help build a better life for the children living in poverty in Mainland China.
