Overview

On 17 October 2013 a bush fire, the largest in the Blue Mountains in over a decade, made it’s way through the area causing the total loss of approximately 187 homes, or partial loss or damage to 93 homes, 25 outbuildings and 235 other claims.

10 Sydney staff members volunteered their time on 16 January 2014 to help one lady Anne Maureen clean up her garden which had been devastated by the fires. The team arrived at Anne Maureen’s house at 8:30am eager to get started. The first job was clearing the debris, once that was done it was a case of weeding, planting and mulching. The team struggled through the 36 degree heat and as you can see from the before and after pictures we made quite an improvement.

Anne Maureen was so delighted with the job we did – here is what she said….

"The photos I took have already winged their way around the world to various friends who are in awe of what you and your team achieved today. I think this has been one of the happiest experiences I have had. Faith in action is often quite inspirational, and when that was combined with the charm and hard work of the delightful Arup staff you really did move a small mountain. I am eternally grateful, and will remember you all in my prayers."
