A £4,000 donation from Arup to the National Flood Forum will help it support and represent communities in the UK county of West Sussex that suffered devastating flooding in 2012.
The forum encourages people to take control of their flood risk. It helps them form flood action groups and work with partners such as the Environment Agency to reduce flood risk. By adopting this approach, the forum facilitates practical action on flooding.
Since our donation, 14 flood action groups have been set up across West Sussex with more to come. Representatives from these groups come together in the West Sussex Flood Action Group Forum, which identifies common themes and helps individual forums work together to get their voices heard.
Linking into existing mechanism ensures flood action groups will influence approaches to flood risk locally. Two elected representatives from these groups will sit on the West Sussex Strategic Flood Risks Management Board, which brings the action groups together with local authorities,
Our donation will enable the National Flood Forum to support this work in West Sussex and encourage other areas to develop this approach, which is unique in England.
