On 17 October 2013 a devastating bush fire took hold of the Blue Mountains. The largest bush fire in over a decade seen in the area, made its way through 190km of land causing the total loss of approximately 187 homes and partial loss or damage to 93 homes, 25 outbuildings and 235 other claims.
On 4 June 2015, 13 Sydney staff members volunteered their time to help one family clear their garden which had been destroyed by the fires. Located in one of the worst affected communities, this family also lost their home and most of their belongings and have only just recently finished rebuilding their home. For them to be eligible for their Occupancy Certificate their garden also had to be cleared of all weeds and garden debris which is where we came to help! We spent the day moving rocks, weeding, whipper snipping, digging, leveling out ground and laying gravel paths – it was tough work but the team did a great job!
